Darlo Martin Kollars and Irene Cecelia Kohles were born, raised, farmed, and spent most of their lives in Crofton, Nebraska. They were married in 1942 at St. Rose Catholic Church and Darlo farmed with Paul for a couple years. They lived with Irene’s parents (in the same house!) until they purchased a 160 acre farm 1.5 miles south of the west edge of Crofton in February of 1945. They farmed this ground until 1974 never using anything larger than two row equipment or having a tractor with more than 45 HP.
They also raised 10 resourceful children, 7 boys and 3 girls, all still living (2012) with families of their own, in all parts of the country. The farm was a great place to grow up in most aspects, with lots of chores, but also lots of good food and fun, many times including the Kollars & Kohles cousins. To hear Gary talk about the cold winter days and nights and the hard labor he endured, one wonders if it was really the “good ol’ days”!
I am Darlo & Irene’s youngest son, and I work in the computer field and live in Kearney, NE. I have enjoyed genealogy, and have gathered together these pictures and documents over the last 10 years or so, and wanted to put something together for other relatives to enjoy. If you have pictures, info, or comments, that you would like to share, please email me. All the pictures & documents you see on this site were scanned, and the originals are still with the rightful owner.
Please look over this site, things will change and info added from time to time, and let me know if things are incorrect or any other comments.
